Optegra Hampshire are currently recruiting for a Locum Optometrist to cover work on Saturdays and annual leave.

Purpose of Post

  • To be an integral part of a multi discipline team working alongside Consultants / Surgeons in pre and post-operative consultations, assessing the suitability of patients for cataract, refractive, glaucoma, retinal and oculoplastic surgery.
  • Supporting Consultants / Surgeons in their ongoing research programmes as well as conducting your own research and Optegra-led research activities.
  • Working in conjunction with the Regional Director / Hospital Director in the development and implementation of a co-management network that will include optometrists as well as local GP’s.
  • Producing clinical training material and delivering presentations on the various disciplines to support all members of a co-management network.
  • To support the Eye Sciences division in producing data on the outcomes of treatments undertaken at Optegra.
  • To work with the Regional Director / Hospital Director and other colleagues in identifying unexpected variance in clinical outcomes, complaint rates or other issues relating to patient safety or satisfaction.
  • To support the Regional Director / Hospital Director and Consultants in managing clinical complaints and related issues.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Discuss with patients their suitability for treatment in a professional and ethical manner in line with company policy and requirements of professional registration and make recommendations to patients and Consultants regarding patients’ suitability for treatment.
  • Work alongside Consultants / Surgeons in the management of day to day clinics carrying out examinations that are associated with cataract, glaucoma, retinal, refractive and oculoplastic surgery.
  • Running acute and follow up clinics post-surgery for all patients.
  • Provide health advice and support to patients attending the hospital.
  • To provide first line clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of referral to a medical practitioner if necessary.
  • Work with the Regional Director / Hospital Director to drive and sustain business development opportunities for both sites.
  • Ensure awareness of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment within the clinical competency framework.
  • Ensure awareness of CQC policies and updates, attending all mandatory update courses
  • Help to control cross infection by enforcing Hospital policy regarding Uniform Policy, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures.
  • To follow correct procedures for documenting and reporting any accident or incident.
  • To be aware of changing needs and be prepared to instigate change with reference to the Regional Director / Hospital Director and/or clinical colleagues.
  • Attend regular meetings and annual appraisals with the Regional Director / Hospital Director including developing and fulfilling a personal development plan.
  • Maintain awareness and drive own knowledge and learning of current developments in ophthalmic surgery.
  • To play an active role in teaching within the hospital and participate in induction programmes for new colleagues.
  • To ensure that all CET points are kept up to date and comply with all relevant professional guidelines, standards and regulations.
  • To take an active part in the maintenance of a supportive learning environment within the hospital.

    ·       Qualified Optometrist registered with GOC

    ·       Min 3 + years experience
